Colours are a part of our everyday lives. They enhance a decor, they please the eye and they can heal. Colour therapy is used as an alternate form of healing, to bring balance to the body and mind. There are various ways that colour can be incorporated in day to day living. Colour can be eaten, worn, displayed and visualised. Choose what suits you and make it your mantra for 21 days.
1. Low on energy add red food to your diet
Red is considered a yang colour. It is also the colour of the root Chakra. Red is considered a warm colour and provides energy. It excites the emotions, stimulates appetite, raises blood pressure and pulse rate. Use red in your life to bring in warmth and excitement.
One easy way to add colour for health is to eat red foods. Red foods work on the body in a red way. Foods are based on colour as per the energy they provide. Red foods are rich in minerals and increase energy and vitality.
Some red foods that you can pick on would be foods like:
- Strawberries, raspberries, cherries
- Red cabbage, beetroot, radishes, peppers, onions, tomatoes, chilies, watercress, parsley
- B12 vitamins
- Iron, magnesium and zinc
2. Destress and bring balance with Orange
Orange is the colour for creativity. It is associated with the sacral chakra. Orange also falls in the category of warm colours. Put some orange in your life if you want to spice things and increase creativity. It is often used to restore balance to a body that has undergone some shock or trauma. Orange is considered a good colour for children with autism.
Strange but all orange looking foods are not orange. Brown rice, sesame seeds, oats provide orange energy to the body. Other obvious choices in orange healing would be foods like Oranges, peaches, apricots, pumpkins, peppers, carrots. Orange foods help release stress and toxins from the body. Constipation, artist’s block, infertility, joint stiffness requires orange healing. Most orange foods increase efficiency of the eliminatory process in the body thus releasing accumulated stress and toxins from the body. Introducing orange energy through orange foods helps relieve these problems.
3. Detox and cleanse with silver
Silver is a good communicator. It calms and soothes. It has the ability to draw out negative energy and replace it with positive vibration. Because of this it has the ability to energise other stones. Silver has cleansing properties.
Ancient Indian rituals include eating from silver containers because of the cleansing properties of silver. Silver is used in healing to cleanse and purify. Try drinking water stored in a silver glass and you will start to notice a difference in health especially where the digestive process is concerned.
4. Yellow for happiness
Yellow is a “happy” colour. It is a stimulant to the brain. Yellow is the colour of the solar plexus. The solar plexus chakra is all about personal power and self esteem. Lack of yellow in our life leads to irritability, poor memory, digestive problems, lowered immunity and an inability in making decisions.
Yellow energy treats indigestion, gives clarity of thought and is useful for treating kidney and liver imbalances.Some ways of adding yellow is through food like lemons and bananas. Some yellow foods that give yellow energy would be foods like:
- Lemons, bananas, grapefruit
- Peppers, pumpkin
- Rice, wheat, corn, rye
5. Build immunity with green
Green is the colour of nature, of life. Balance is achieved with green. Green is associated with growth and expansion. Green relates to the heart chakra which is all about self love and our ability to give and receive love unconditionally. The organs affected by this chakra are the heart and breasts. Green energy is used to treat diseases related to the heart, immune related disease, allergies and breast cancer.
Green plants are another great way to add green to your life. A walk in the park among nature is a quick way to bring green vibration in your life.
Green foods like fish and green vegetables bring in green energy. Some other foods that give us green energy are:
- Apples, pears, avocados, green grapes, limes, kiwi fruit
- Cabbage, broccoli, kale, sprouts, green beans, peas
- Basil, oregano, parsley
6. Heal the throat with blue
Blue soothes. Blue is the colour of the sky and the sea. This colour is associated with the throat Chakra. Hence blue is about self expression which is different from self love. It is about communicating correctly with others. It is about letting people know about your needs.
Healing with blue energy is required when there are thyroid problems, sore throat, mouth ulcers, and tonsillitis or hearing problems.
Blue foods that provide blue energy are plums, blueberries, Kelp and seaweed.
7. Calm headaches with violet
Violet is the colour of royalty. It signifies dignity. It is the colour of spirituality and is used in meditation rooms. It calms the mind and is a good colour to introduce in the bedroom if one has a disturbed sleep. It is associated with the crown chakra, the chakra concerned with spiritual awareness and self knowledge. The organs related to this chakra are the brain, the endocrine gland and the pineal gland.
Violet energy is used to heal brain disorders, bring clarity and remove confusion and headaches. For violet energy add these to your diet: Black grapes, plums, Purple basil, St. John’s wort, Purple broccoli and aubergines.
